International Summer School on Soil Carbon Cycling

We are delighted to invite you to join the International Summer School on Soil Carbon Sequestration and Stability, initiated by Professor Ji Chen and organized by the Institute of Earth Environment of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), with support from the Bureau of International Cooperation, CAS.

Increased carbon sequestration offers an opportunity to improve the environment and to contribute to sustainable development. Currently, global challenges such as the accelerated evolution of unprecedented changes, increasing greenhouse gas emissions, and the intensifying climate crises have become significant factors hindering countries from achieving the "carbon neutrality" in pursuit of the UN Sustainable Development Goals. To achieve the "Dual Carbon Strategy" and sustainable development, countries must collectively participate in global climate governance and seek a balance across economic, social, and environmental dimensions.

In this context, we are organizing this Summer School on Soil Carbon Sequestration and Stability to enhance communications among young scholars, and lay a solid foundation for achieving the global sustainable development goals. We welcome young scientists from diverse backgrounds covering Climate Change and Ecosystem Health, Ecology, Agronomy, Big Data, Artificial Intelligence, Microbial Ecology, Soil Health, and agribusiness to join us from July 6 to 20, 2025, in Xi'an (a historic and cultural city), China.

Costs and Funding

Attendees are required to cover their international travel related costs themselves. The Institute of Earth Environment Research, Chinese Academy of Sciences, will cover accommodation and meals for participants during the summer school, as well as their travel costs and insurance in China.
